Learn how to navigate through the woods using a map, compass, and your own intution across the landscape. This hands on class introduces the anatomy of a baseplate compass, how to read a topographic map, and how to estimate distance while traveling on an azimuth. After short instruction, participants will apply these skills in a practical woodland navigation exercise, locating a series of known points using a map and compass. The focus of this class is real world movement through terrain, interpreting the map, building confidence navigating without technology, and having fun!

  • Age Range: 12 years plus (recommended) Participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult
