Compass Anatomy 101

In a world dominated by GPS and digital mapping, the humble compass remains one of the most dependable tools for wilderness navigation. In this 90 minute session, students will learn the anatomy of a baseplate compass and how each component works together to help you navigate confidently. We will break down parts such as the magnetic needle, orienting arrow, baseplate, bezel, direction of travel arrow, declination adjustment, and scales. By the end of this class participants will understand what each part does and how to properly use and handle a compass before moving on to practical navigation skills.
