Buckskin: De-graining and Alkalining (Bucking) Deer Skins

When making Buckskin (Brain-Tan, Oil-Tan, etc.) the most misunderstood and challenging stages of the process are, the removal of the Grain Layer and understanding the chemistry of the Alkalining process. This 2-to-3-hour workshop will give you in depth understanding of how, why and when to remove the grain layer and provide you with time to do some de-graining yourselves. This is a skill best learned hands-on and in person! The course will include a thorough discussion of what we achieve during the alkalining (bucking) process, how to mix the solutions and what can be used to create them.

There will, of course, be ample time for questions! This course is meant to be hands-on; however, you are welcome to come just for the information and not physically participate.
