Delve into the intricacies of using an axe; their history, evolution and range of uses. We’ll explore basic axe safety, before moving swiftly into their use in green woodwork through to felling trees and hewing beams. We’ll travel through time and have a go using the ancestors of the modern axe; from prehistoric flint and bronze axes to the early medieval broad axe.This will be an extremely hands on course, so be prepared for a lot of information and a good few blisters.

Description

Marc Cox is an experimental archaeologist and carpenter based in Somerset. He manages the Avalon
Archaeology Centre and has spent his adult life committed to ancient and traditional building techniques with his own company, Newhaven Coppice. He has been a regular contributor to Bushcraft magazine for the last 8 years, sharing his passion for ancestral skills and heritage crafts.
